Goregaon man rapes minor behind public toilet, arrested
A four-and-a–half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her 45-year-old neighbour on Diwali night. The accused, Chaturbhuj Rajvashi Mahanto, abducted the girl from outside her parents’ house in Bangur Nagar, Goregaon, and took her to a deserted spot behind a public toilet where he raped her. Mahanto, an electrician by profession and resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar in Goregaon (west), was arrested the day of the incident and is now in police custody.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Vidhya Thakur on Monday visited DCP (Zone 11) Vikram Deshmane to discuss the police investigation into this case and request police to ensure the safety of women and girls staying in the slum.
According to the police, around 10.55 pm on October 30, the girl stepped out after dinner and did not return for quite some time after which her parents started searching for her and found her crying near a public toilet in the vicinity. When the girl was asked why she was sobbing, she showed her mother her injured private part. The girl’s father, an idli vendor, immediately called the locals who caught Mahanto after the girl identified him as the person responsible. Later, Bangur Nagar police officers were called who arrested Mahanto. The victim was admitted to Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon for treatment. She was then referred to Cooper Hospital.
“Many drug addicts and alcoholics are found loitering near residential areas of Bhagat Singh Nagar who try to molest local girls and women. After visiting the minor rape victim on Sunday, I decided to visit the DCP on Monday,” said Ms Thakur. Mr Deshmane confirmed Ms Thakur’s visit.
