Government schools tie up with Cambridge University to offer international course

Maharashtra for the first time in history will offer an international programme for Class 10 students from the next academic year. The state education department will launch the Secondary School Certificate International (SSC-I) programme for 100 state government schools, in association with the University of Cambridge on a pilot basis.

“It will implemented for 100 schools to make SSC international,” confirmed state education minister Vinod Tawde.

As part of the programme, the students will be prepared to answer programmes for international student assessment, progress in international reading literacy study, and trends in science study and mathematics.

The programme has been conceptualised on the lines of a similar programme started by the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) four years ago and is aimed to impart skills required to make students come on par with their international counterparts.

However, when the office of Ruchira Ghosh (regional director, South Asia, Cambridge International Examination) was contacted, she was not available for comments.

Meanwhile, the state education department has also invited applications from schools willing to be part of the pilot project to bring them on par with international standards.

The selection of schools for the project will be done via an online survey and other criteria. Minimum criteria required for schools to participate in the project have been listed.
