Group of thieves shoot at 3 Pune constables
In yet another case of violence against policemen on duty, a group of thieves in Pune shot at three constables who were on night patrol on Saturday. Two of the officers were injured.
Four days ago, Vilas Shinde, a traffic police constable from Mumbai, succumbed to the injuries he had sustained on August 23 after the brother of a helmet-less juvenile biker had attacked him. Then, on Saturday, a 27-year-old attacked a police constable in Thane.
Dayanand Dhome, police inspector, Chatushringi police station, Pune, said: “There has been an increased number of robbery cases in the Pashan Sus Hills area near the Audi showroom. Hence, Chatushrungi police station, under which the Pashan Sus Hills area falls, deployed a team of policemen for night patrolling to keep a check on such robberies.”
He added: “Around 9.15 pm on Saturday, constables Amar Shaikh and Maruti Gund noticed three youths hanging around suspiciously in the area. The constables picked up the two of them and started questioning them. Meanwhile, a third person shot at Gund with an air gun and a bullet passed through Gund’s ribs. All three were thieves. The third thief later tried to shoot at Shaikh, but his air gun did not go off. He thus hit Shaikh’s head with the air gun, after which all three ran away.”
