In yet another case of hit-and-run, a 37-year old researcher, was killed after an unknown taxi driver knocked him down and fled from the spot on the south-bound stretch of western express highway in Andheri east early on Sunday. The deceased was carrying three high-end mobile handsets but the police did not find even a single phone from the accident spot, concluding that onlookers stole it and fled instead of taking the victim to a hospital.

According to the Andheri police, a member of the public called the emergency number 100 around 5.15 am about the incident that took place in Gundavli area. A police vehicle was rushed to the spot and the deceased Gurmeet Singh Indrajeet Singh Kalsi, a researcher-businessman, was found battling for his life in a semi-conscious state. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on admission. The police said he suffered serious injuries on his head and leg and was bleeding from his ears.

Gurmeet was a researcher and was involved in making equipments used in hydroelectricity power plants. He is survived by his wife, two children and parents. A resident of Rajkot in Gujarat, the victim was visiting Mumbai in connection with his work, the police said.

The police initially had a hard time identifying Gurmeet or contacting his friends as his phones are believed to have been stolen by onlookers. Eventually, PI Salunkhe recognised Gurmeet as the latter had visited the police station along with his friends a few days ago in connection with an issue.
