In a bid to make the three-year articleship period more beneficial for the students, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is bringing in some major changes in its programmes. According to officials, the decision has been prompted based on the feedback from the industry as well as the student fraternity and the changes could take effect some time in the beginning of 2016. The changes are part of the institutes attempt to revamp its syllabus to produce chartered accountants who are at par with those abroad.
Sunil Patodia, chairman of the Western India Regional Council, while addressing students attending the GMCS and orientation courses, said that the institute was bringing in some major changes in the course pattern and syllabus for their benefit. “The institute is bringing about changes suited to the students,” said Mr Patodia.
Officials in the institute said that Mr Patodia was hinting towards the change in the syllabus as well the various skill development programmes being offered by the institute. “After appearing for the entrance test, successful students undergo a five-day orientation course that is currently being offered by the institute after which they became eligible for starting articleship. Six months into the articleship, students have to attend a 15-day GMCS-I programme at the institute for improving soft skills as well as their knowledge of the technical aspects of the course,” said the official.
