Incorrect numbers of 2 top cops on Mumbai police website

The contact numbers of two IPS officers uploaded on the Mumbai police website have been found to be incorrect.

The contact numbers of two IPS officers uploaded on the Mumbai police website have been found to be incorrect. Citizens have also claimed that they face inconvenience, as the website’s content is not regularly updated.

The wrong contact numbers displayed on the website are of Additional Commissioner (local arms department) Aswati Dorje and Additional Commissioner (traffic department) Sunil Paraskar.

Admitting to the errors, Deputy Commissioner of Police (cyber cell) Sachin Patil said, “The two contact numbers on the website are wrong. We have noted the error and will rectify it as soon as possible.”

The contact number that has wrongly got updated on the website as Mr Paraskar’s number actually belongs to a businessman, Manoj Amesur. “I am tired of receiving frequent calls on my mobile, especially from the media and citizens. All these people call up to register their traffic-related grievances. I am perplexed as to why I have been receiving such calls. I am a businessman from Bandra and deal in sarees. I need to contact a number of people for business purposes. However, with so many incoming calls, I fail to make outgoing calls. This also wastes my time,” said Mr Amesur.

On the other hand, the contact number wrongly uploaded as Ms Dorje’s number belongs to a woman. When this newspaper contacted the number on the website, a woman answered the call and claimed it to be a wrong number.

DCP Patil said, “We update the site every week. I have noted the two wrong contact numbers. We will take cognisance and assertive steps to rectify the error. However, we will ensure the website is error-free and updated regularly.”

“Mumbai police uploads officers’ contact numbers on their website so that people can get in touch with their respective area officer. It also aims at increasing the communication between police and people,” Mr Patil added.

Repeated attempts made by this correspondent to contact Ms Dorje and Mr Paraskar failed.
