IndiGo ladder vehicle damages aerobridge
An aerobridge of the Mumbai international airport got damaged after a hydraulic ladder vehicle that belongs to IndiGo damaged it on Tuesday morning. An airport official, speaking to The Asian Age, said that no injury was reported.
As the incident took place at the airside area of the airport, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked for a report on the mishap.
After this the local unit of the civil aviation regulator conducted an investigation. According to sources, it appears, prima facie, that the driver was at fault as he had lost control over the vehicle. The DGCA western region is conducting the investigation and the report will be produced to the DGCA headquarters after investigating all the aspects of the incident, said an official close to the development.
According to the airport sources, when the hydraulic ladder vehicle’s stair section was in elevated state, it rammed into the aerobridge attached with the airport terminal building. In the collision the outer glass wall of the aerobridge shattered and fell to the ground. Officials of IndiGo confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
The officials of Mumbai airport also confirmed the incident, however, they stated that the aerobridge was in use on Tuesday.
Commenting on the incident, the IndiGo spokesperson said, “Our team at the airport immediately pulled out the ladder.” They added, “IndiGo has voluntarily reported the matter to the airport operator and the regulator.”
In a similar incident in July this year, an Air India Boeing 777 aircraft had rammed into the aerobridge at Mumbai international airport. The airline had blamed the operating system of Mumbai airport for the accident.
