Indrani Mukerjea in hospital with viral fever
Indrani Mukerjea, main accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, was once again admitted to the JJ Hospital on Wednesday with suspected dengue. However, sources from the hospital confirmed that medical tests have revealed that Indrani is not suffering from dengue, but from viral fever.
According to sources, Indrani was down with fever for the last few days. However, her blood test reports to check if it was dengue was negative. Sources said that there was no drop in the platelet count in the first report, thereby ruling out dengue. JJ Hospital doctors are, however, running more blood tests in order to be certain. However, jail authorities maintained that Indrani’s platelet count went down to 65,000 when they first conducted blood tests in jail. “Our doctors have been examining her health everyday after the last incident when she fell unconscious. We increased the police guards around Indrani’s cell. She has been feeling dizzy and suffering from fever in the last few days, so we conducted blood tests.
When the drop in platelets was noticed, we suspected dengue and sent her to JJ for further treatment,” said a jail authority.
Dean of JJ Hospital Dr T.P Lahane said, “Two doctors from our hospital were sent to Byculla prison in the morning. Now, we have admitted Indrani and taken different blood tests. Only after the reports are ready can we comment on what exactly the problem is.”
Byculla jail authorities on Wednesday informed the Metropolitan Magistrate court that Indrani Mukerjea is suffering from suspected dengue and hence they could not produce her before the court. The CBI has filed an application before the magistrate seeking permission to take Mukerjea’s voice samples and the court had asked the jail authorities to produce her before the court on Wednesday. Since Mukerjea is in jail custody and jail authorities could not produce her before the court, they informed that she would be produced before the court as soon as her health improves.
