Lawyer slams cops’ prison escape story
Lawyer of SIMI activist Mohammed Ahmed, one of the eight killed in the Bhopal encounter, said they would soon demand a CBI inquiry.
A lawyer who represents Mohammed Khalid Ahmed, one of the eight SIMI activists who was killed in an alleged police encounter in Bhopal on Tuesday after they fled from a prison, has said there was no reason for his client to escape from the prison. Advocate Tahwar Khan Pathan, who represented Ahmed on behalf of Jamiat-e-Ulema Maharashtra, said that the trial against his client in a firing case had a total of 28 prosecution witnesses out of 12 were examined but none of them named him.
Khan said legal steps are under consideration in connection with the encounter but one thing is for sure — that this matter would be pursued till it reaches logical end.
In the meantime, advocate Parvez Alam, appearing on behalf of other accused, has said a petition seeking CBI inquiry into the encounter would be filed soon and he would also be seeking protection for himself and his family because he was speaking openly against the encounter and feared he or his family members could be targeted. “We are representing six of the total 17 accused arrested in this case. These six persons, including Khalid, were from Maharashtra,” said advocate Tahwar Khan Pathan, who is appearing on behalf of Jamiat-e-Ulema Maharashtra.
