The Rabale police has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend and later threatening to circulate her nude pictures and clippings that he had taken when they were in a relationship. He had also sent a picture of the girl in a comprising position to her brother on a mobile chat application. According to the police, the accused Amol Rawte was in a relationship with the girl when they got physically intimate and also had consensual sexual intercourse. “The two started having problems and the victim called off the relationship and got engaged to another man, which enraged Rawte. He confronted her on several occasions, trying to convince her to take him back. When he threatened to circulate the pictures and the clippings, she began avoiding him. He also allegedly raped her when she had met him upon being called by him,” said senior PI Nasir Pathan of Rabale police station. On September 16, Rawte sent a photo of the victim, reportedly in a nude state, to her brother through an Internet-based mobile chat application. The victim got scared and filed a complaint with the Rabale police, who immediately arrested Rawte on Tuesday. The police has charged him under Sections 376 (rape), 292 (circulating obscene materials), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and section 678 A of the IPC and Information Technology Act. The police has also sent his cellphone for forensic analysis to recover additional clippings and photos recorded by the accused, which will be used as evidence in court.
