Mhada’s 2016 lottery to have 1,085 homes

The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (Mhada) is planning to come out with 1,085 affordable homes for the Mumbai region in its 2016 lottery draw.

The Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority (Mhada) is planning to come out with 1,085 affordable homes for the Mumbai region in its 2016 lottery draw. The flats are located in areas like Pratiksha Nagar in Sion, Rawalpada in Dahisar, Unnat Nagar in Goregaon and Chembur.

“The category of the flats under the Medium Income Group (MIG) will be around 600 sq ft which makes a compact 2 BHK apartment and flats under Lower Income Group (LIG) are going to be around 400 sq ft enough for a 1 BHK apartment. However, we are yet to decide whether the flats under Higher Income Group (HIG) are going to be included in the 2016 lottery draw. The official announcement for the same will be made in mid-January after discussing with the housing ministry,” added Mhada’s Mumbai board official.

In the 2015 lottery Mhada did not allow individuals and families who had monthly income of more than Rs 70,000 as they are considered to be under the HIG category and there were no flats made available for the HIG category.

The flats located in 2015 lottery draw were priced between Rs 18 lakh to Rs 47 lakh and located at Mankhurd, Sion, Mulund and Goregaon.

“The flats under the 2016 lottery draw are expected to be cheaper as compared to their prices last year. The reason behind this is the factor of providing affordable homes. Also, instead of including buildings that have got Commencement Certificate (CC), only homes in buildings that are on the verge of getting an Occupation Certificate (OC) in the next six months will be included to avoid any delay in possession,” said an official from Mhada’s Mumbai board. Earlier, Mhada used to include buildings in which the construction work had started and only the CC had been granted.

Meanwhile, the Konkan board of Mhada will announce 4,000 affordable homes in Virar, Thane and Mira Road in January. “The flats are going to be available only under the LIG and MIG category. The area of LIG is going to be 484 sq ft and the area of MIG will be of 861 sq ft,” said an official from Mhada’s Konkan board.
