The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to sell all the illegal hoardings on its 33 flyovers as scrap and generate revenue since it hasn’t got Rs 277 crore owed to it by defaulters using advertising spaces illegally.

MSRDC has initiated a drive to pull down these illegal advertising hoardings and selling them as scrap. In order to do this, the corporation has floated tenders to appoint contractors to remove the illegal hoardings of advertising agencies that are using advertising space on 33 flyovers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The defaulting agencies owe MSRDC Rs 277 crore as of April 2016. The corporation generates revenue by renting out space on flyovers and on electric poles for advertising. MSRDC has entered into contracts with ad agencies for renting out designated space along 33 flyovers, three toll plazas and three subways.
