Narayan Rane brings up Congress’ poor showing at House
Congress MLC Narayan Rane has complained about the poor performance of the party at a dinner hosted by leader of Opposition in the Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil last evening. According to a source who was present at the function, Mr Rane has advised Ashok Chavan to sit and formulate a strategy for the upcoming BMC polls.
Mr Vikhe-Patil hosted a dinner party for newly-elected members of Rajya Sabha (RS) and member of state legislative Council (MLC) at a five-star hotel in Colaba. MP P. Chidambaram and MLC Narayan Rane along with party members of both the Houses were present at the dinner.
According to party insider while praising party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Mr Rane said that Congress lacks aggression in the Lower House, though the ruling Devendra Fadnavis government’s performance was poor.
“There is unrest in the society against the BJP government. In such a situation, we must act aggressively against the ruling party. Unfortunately, we don’t have the strategy to corner this government,” Mr Rane reportedly told Mr Chidambaram.
He said that each Congress MLA and MLC should reach the Vidhan Bhavan before the slated time of the Session. “If the members reach before the business of the House begins, we can discuss the strategy to be adopted,” Mr Rane said.
Mr Rane tried to bring attention of Mr Chidambaram towards the poor performance of the party, worse than NCP. He also advised Ashok Chavan, president of the state Congress unit, to formulate strategy for civic election.
Sources said Mr Chavan praised Mr Chidambaram’s efforts as Union home minister during the UPA rule . Mr Chidambaram said that he would be available for the party whenever his presence was needed.
