Nerul teacher struggles to save injured son’s leg
Ever since Hasina’s 27-year-old son lost his right leg to an accident in August 2015, the Nerul school teacher has been struggling to collect money for his treatment.
The son, Mohsin, met with an accident at Chembur while he was returning home from work.
A bus hit him from behind and mowed down his right leg. He used to work as a receptionist in a laboratory in Chembur.
After the accident, Ms Hasina tried to collect money for the treatment of his son but could not arrange it. “Earlier, when I contacted a government hospital, they suggested amputating his injured leg which I did not want,” said Ms Hasina. “So, I contacted a private hospital that quoted Rs 5 lakh for the treatment but when I took my son along for admission, they said that the treatment would cost Rs 21 lakh,” she added. She also said Mohsin had received only basic first aid for the injured right leg after the accident.
“We then approached another private hospital but it was too late for the leg to be saved. It had been 21 days since the accident and without any medical help, the leg had begun to rot and stink so doctors at the private hospital amputated it,” said Ms Hasina.
However, during the accident, the big toe of his left leg had also gotten injured and for it to be treated the family needs another Rs 3 lakh.
“I have spent Rs 5 lakh for his treatment. I have also lost my job because I needed time to look after him. I don’t know how I will collect the money,” said Ms Hasina.
