Pub in dock for ‘hurting religious sentiments’

An NGO has registered an FIR against the Goregaon branch of the popular pub Social located at a mall in the suburb.

An NGO has registered an FIR against the Goregaon branch of the popular pub Social located at a mall in the suburb. The NGO, Watchdog Foundation, alleged that the pub hurt religious sentiments with its use of Roman Catholic iconography and symbols in the furniture and décor, and depicting religious saints in an objectionable manner.

The Watchdog Foundation on Wednesday approached the Dindoshi police station with pictures of the pub, alleging that the pub had “outrageously depicted” various saints and religious items from the Holy Bible. “There are pictures of saints with funny names written below. The bar area, too, has the backdrop of a tabernacle,” said Godfrey Pimenta, a civic activist and founder of Watchdog Foundation.
