Customs officials in Pune seized seven precision hawk drones worth around Rs 1.2 crore. They were seized after a raid was carried out in an office in Pune following a tip-off. Two persons have been booked in this connection.

According to officials, the drones were brought illegally and the process of checking their documentation is on.

A customs official from Pune said, “The modus operandi of the accused was to import drones as parts and assemble it in India, in order to escape from customs actions and duty.”

While drones are not banned in Pune, many cities in the country, including Mumbai and Delhi, have banned the use of drones without prior permission, said an official.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that these illegally imported drones were sold to various companies by one Vikas Kumar of heightsnext company in Pune.
