Director and producer Rajkumar Hirani underwent a minor jaw surgery at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra on Tuesday after meeting with an accident early on Tuesday morning during the shoot of a film. He is said to be out of danger.

The director was reportedly injured after the bike he was riding on skidded on the highway. Mr Hirani was bleeding from both ears and his jaw, which led doctors to suspect a case of haemorrhage, the possibility of which was ruled out after subsequent tests. He also suffered a gash on his chin.

Dr Jalil Parker, under whom Mr Hirani was admitted, said the director reacted well to the treatment. “He will just have to make a few rounds to the hospital as a routine procedure. Otherwise he is doing fine,” said Dr Parker. The director has been told to take bed rest for two days to ensure a speedy recovery.

Actor Aamir Khan visited the director in the hospital soon after his surgery and later tweeted on his condition to his fans.
