The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has submitted its findings to the Mumbai police team against the six engineers who are in the dock for alleged involvement in the road works scam.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has submitted its findings to the Mumbai police team against the six engineers who are in the dock for alleged involvement in the road works scam. The BMC had suspended two engineers earlier this week and set up an internal inquiry against four others for allegedly conniving with the ‘tainted’ contractors in the scam. The engineers had levied a fine on the contractors after an FIR was filed against them, thereby making the complaint weak.

This preliminary report against the engineers was submitted to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Mumbai police on Wednesday. Police sources confirmed that the investigators had approached the BMC asking them to submit their findings against the engineers so that it could also form a part of their ongoing investigations.

Additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Deshmukh said, “We have submitted all the necessary documents to the police, concerning the officials suspected of being involved in the case.” He confirmed that after the BMC completed its first round of inspection of 34 roads, it was able to pin responsibility on certain officials from the road’s department.

Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta said, “We have to submit reports of our findings to the police, and we have done that.”

Meanwhile, police sources said that SIT officials would ask the BMC to submit an internal inquiry report against Uday Murudkar, former chief engineer of the vigilance department. Murudkar was arrested alongwith Ashok Pawar, the chief engineer for the roads department for their involvement in the road repairs and reconstruction scam. Last week, the civic body had filed a similar report against Pawar, pinning charges against him. BMC sources confirmed a report would be submitted to the police soon.
