Sheena Bora murder case: Court gives Rahul’s statement to defence
According to Peter’s son, in 2008, Sheena had told him that Indrani was her mother and not sister
The special CBI judge H.S. Mahajan on Thursday handed over copies of five witnesses, including the statement of Peter Mukerjea’s son Rahul, recorded before the magistrate in the Sheena Bora murder case to lawyers of Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai.
Copies of statements have been given to Indrani’s lawyer Gunjan Mangala, Khanna’s lawyer Shreyansh Mithare and Rai’s lawyer Bhave.
In his statement, Rahul did not address Indrani as mother but either by her name or said ‘father’s wife’. According to his statement, after losing contact with Sheena he made a lot of effort, from approaching the police to contacting grandparents and biological father, office and close friends of Sheena, to find her. But when he did not succeed in contacting her, he shifted to Dehradun to his biological mother’s hometown and tried to live a normal life. Then in August 2015, he received a phone call from the Maharashtra police asking him to come to Mumbai for investigations (into Sheena’s murder case.)
According to Rahul, in 2008 Sheena had informed him that Indrani was her mother and not sister and a certain Sidharth Das was her father. “In the month of December 2008 while I was in my Worli house, Sheena was very upset as she had argument with Indrani. At that time Sheena told me that she did not want to pretend to be Indrani’s sister, and she felt that Vidhi was being treated as her daughter but she was not being treated as daughter, which was unfair to her.”
At that time Rahul had asked Sheena to stay with him at his Khar flat and since that day till February or March 2009 they stayed together in that flat. Rahul told the magistrate that they stayed together till his father came to that flat and informed them that Indrani did not want them to be together. A few minutes later Indrani came to the flat and took Sheena away with her.
Rahul further stated that after separating them, Indrani had allegedly sent Sheena to Bangalore with Sheena’s former boyfriend Kaustabh Saikia so that Sheena could live with him but Sheena was not willing to go ahead with the idea. He also said that during that time Kaustabh had hit her leg with a beer bottle and on Sheena’s request his close friend Pranoy took her to his house after which Rahul visited Bangalore and brought Sheena to Delhi with him and later they got engaged.
However, in 2012 Indrani and Sheena again started communicating with each other and since Sheena wanted to complete her MBA and was in need of funds so she resumed contact with her mother. According to Rahul’s statement, on April 24 2012, he had dropped Sheena at Bandra as she had planned to have dinner with Indrani but after that she went missing.
Rahul tried to contact her but he received messages saying she wanted to break up with him as she has found someone else but all the communications were through text messages so he believed that they were not genuine. He has also stated that when he contacted Indrani in connection with Sheena, Indrani kept changing her story so he recorded her conversation on his mobile phone.
This phone is currently with the investigating agency.Also, Rahul told the magistrate that the police made him from one police station to other to file Sheena’s missing complaint but nobody registered the complaint saying he should not worry
as she has gone with her mother and they (Rahul and Sheena) were not married.The Human Resources head of the Mumbai Metro (where Sheena was working) Shubhodoy Mukherjee in the statement before the magistrate has said that Sheena left office early on April 24, 2012 and did not report to work after that. He said that when his staff tried to contact her, she was not reachable.
Mr Mukherjee said that he got a call from Indrani. He also said, “When I said that Rahul told me that you are Sheena’s mother, Indrani said that’s not correct and she indeed Sheena’s sister.”
According to Mukherjee’s statement, Indrani had told him that Sheena has gone to some place and she does not want to be contacted. Also, when he asked her how did Sheena leave without informing the office, “Indrani told me that I must respect Sheena’s feelings as she is having some problem for which she does not want to be contacted by anyone,” Mr Mukherjee said in his statement.
