Shendra-Bidkin industrial park gets Centre approval

The small towns of Shendra-Bidkin in Aurangabad where an industrial park has been planned has received sanction from the Centre with funds of Rs 3,000 crore.

The small towns of Shendra-Bidkin in Aurangabad where an industrial park has been planned has received sanction from the Centre with funds of Rs 3,000 crore. The towns have been included in the first phase of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), which will encourage industrial development in the backward Marathwada region.

The entire project cost is of Rs 6,880 crore, of which half will be raised by the Special Purpose Vehicle appointed for the project.

The Shendra-Bidkin industrial park will have a host of amenities such as: world-class business district centre, modern, efficient and quality setting for meetings and conferences, exhibitions and shows, hotel and entertainment facilities, vibrant retail, offices and transit connections to the city, airport and downtown.

A meeting in this regard took place with Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday in Delhi in the presence of joint secretaries from the finance ministry, the financial advisor of the Government of India and principal secretary of the industries department, Maharashtra, Apurva Chandra. Mr Chandra presented the project before the Centre, got approval and along with it, the funds.

“This is the biggest decision for us as the Centre has sanctioned the project and also promised Rs 3,000 crore for it. We will raise the remaining amount and MIDC will look into land acquisition,” general manager of DMIC Gajanan Patil told The Asian Age.

In the infrastructure development, the cities will have roads, water, sewer, effluent and recycled water, storm drainage, electricity generation, pipeline from Jayakwadi Dam to Bidkin and water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, common effluent treatment plant and solid waste management, the official added.
