In an attempt towards improving the state’s standing in ease of doing business, Maharashtra government has brought down the number of permissions, licences, approvals required for the hospitality sector from 70 to 41. The government is even aiming to bring it down further to 34 in a month’s time. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said this would boost investment in the hospitality sector.

On Saturday Mr Fadnavis took to twitter to announce that Maharashtra had brought down the number of processes in hospitality sector to 41 and would further lower it to 34 in a month. Mr Fadnavis chaired a meeting to review rationalisation of permissions and easing of the processes with all the departments concerned.

Mr Fadnavis has asked the officials to make a single master application form to give all these permissions and approvals. He has also instructed them to provide these permissions on the Right To Service (RTS) platform.

Last year, Delhi and Mumbai were ranked 53 and 47 respectively, on the business environment parameters. Over all, India ranked 130. The state is also aiming to have a single-window system where investors can seek all permissions under one roof without approaching various government offices and departments.

The initiative taken by the government seeks to promote its ambitious Make in India campaign by encouraging foreign investment in the country. In its efforts towards the initiative of the ease of doing business, the state government has so far scrapped five permissions required for setting up hotels. The scrapped licences include permission for food registration certificate, construction of swimming pool, place of public entertainment licence A and B and presentation of licence.
