State submits proposal worth Rs 29,000 crore for Smart Cities
Giving priorities to safety, cleanliness and better roads, 10 major cities, including Mumbai have submitted their proposals worth Rs 29,647.45 crore for the Central-government funded Smart City project. However, in terms of estimates value Mumbai proposal with just Rs 1,118 crore is the lowest among all the 10. Thane municipal corporation with a proposal estimate of Rs 6,630 crore tops the list, followed by Amravati with proposals worth Rs 5,305 crore and Nagpur with Rs 3,409 crore.
Manisha Mhaiskar, secretary to the urban development department, said that the Union government would announce the final list of selected cities on January 26. “Some 10 cities are competing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Smart City Project and the results will be out on Republic Day,” said Ms Mhaiskar. She added that all were expecting all the 10 cities be in the final list.
Ms Mhaiskar said that the state had submitted proposal worth Rs 29,647.45 crore. “People’s participation while preparing the proposed plan was the unique idea behind the project and most of them had given preference to better road connectivity, cleanliness and safety and security of the citizens,” she said.
According to another official from UDD, the development of Shendra-Bidkin investment zone in Aurangabad, textile cluster in Amravati, and Kalyan-Dombivali as additional industrial development zone with better residential opportunities were included in the proposal sent to the Union government. Similarly, developing Amravati and Solapur as the textile hub; Pune as automobile and electronic zone were other aspects in the proposals, said an official.
