Surprise checks to nail bogus law colleges

State Bar Council members have said that committees consisting of council members from adjoining states would conduct the surprise visits and submit their reports to the BCI. The BCI has recently ordered the closure of 255 colleges across the India as they did not conform to the norms.

Advocate Ashish Deshmukh, member of the State Bar Council said that the problem of illegal colleges had been on the rise and it was becoming a major problem. “Numerous colleges across the country have sprouted without following the rules laid down by the BCI. As a result of this, students enrolling in these institutions face a lot of problem when they apply for the sanad. To curb this exploitation of students and illegal existence, the BCI has decided to conduct surprise checks on the colleges,” said Mr Deshmukh.

Sources in BCI said that in a bid to ensure that the surprise checks did not get compromised in any way, the BCI had decided to get the inspections done by council from adjoining states.

“The committee of Maharashtra state council members will inspect colleges in Gujarat and the Gujarat committee will visit Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan colleges. In this way, the identity of the inspection committee will remain secure, as well as colleges will be expected to remain alert always,” said the source.
