Two more farmers end lives in Nashik

Two young farmers from Niphad and Kalwan tehsils ended their lives in Nashik district a day after two farmers from Niphad and Trimbakeshwar committed suicide. With this, the number of suicide cases in the district this year has reached 54.

The Shiv Sena lamented the deaths and stated that all troubled farmers should contact the party before taking any step. Shiv Sena deputy leader and ex-MLA Babanrao Gholap said that suicide was not a solution.

Police sources said farmer Ramrao Trimbak More (48) of Bhendi village in Kalwan tehsil consumed pesticide in his house on Tuesday evening. His family rushed him to the Sub-Rural Hospital in Kalwan town. When he became critical, the doctors recommended shifting to Nashik Civil (General) Hospital.

Ramrao was pronounced dead by the doctors late on Tuesday. Tragically, the deceased’s brothers Prakash and Keshav too had ended their lives. Sources said that this was the fifth farmer’s suicide in Kalwan, which is a highly irrigated and a green tehsil.

In the second incident, farmer Babaji Ramnath Jadhav (38) of Aurangpur village in Niphad tehsil drank pesticide and ended his life at midnight. He was rushed to Nashik Civil (General) Hospital where he succumbed while under treatment.

The deceased’s father owns a farm and the family owes Rs 2,50,000 to a cooperative credit society in Niphad. The family has also pawned jewellery to Bhagyashri Cooperative Credit Society for Rs 1,00,000, sources said.
