Uddhav Thackeray reviews civic projects, asks leaders to expedite works
With the civic elections just three months away, Shiv Sena — the ruling party in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) — has started efforts the fulfil the promises it had given in its 2012 manifesto. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has taken the initiative directing his party leaders to expedite project works before the code of conduct sets in.
Mr Thackeray chaired the meeting, held at Mayor’s bungalow, which was attended by municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta, top civic officials and senior Sena leaders. He took the review of its promises given by the party while contesting the 2012 civic polls.
Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI combine’s 10-page manifesto for the 2012 BMC polls dealt with the major issues faced by Mumbaikars such as water, health, lack of infrastructure, roads and flyovers. Some of its promises include the 24-hour water supply, converting tar roads into concrete ones, pothole-free roads, dust-free city and the construction of 14 flyovers in the city. Besides, they also promised the completion of the Mumbai Sewage Water process project and the ambitious Brimstowad internal projects by 2013 to tackle floods. Furthermore, the combine also promised to give away houses or compensation, according to the readyreckoner, to Mumbaikars affected by the different municipal projects.
However, the party has not been able to deliver the goods as far as the manifesto promises are concerned.
