Veer Savarkar must be emulated: Manohar Parrikar

Defence minister Manohar Parrikar stated that imbibing the thoughts of Veer Savarkar was ‘real service to the country’. He was speaking after dedicating the renovated house of the late freedom fighter in Bhagur village near Nashik city. Ministers Girish Mahajan and Dada Bhuse, MPs Sanjay Raut and Hemant Godse, MLAs Devyani Farande and Rajabhau Waje, Bhagur Municipal Council president Anita Karanjkar, Sena district chief Vijay ‘Appa’ Karanjkar were present.

Mr Parrikar said that, Savarkar’s ‘patriotism, scientific leaning and determination’ are ideals to be emulated today. “Festivals should be held to showcase the works of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and of Savarkar. Savarkar’s song, Sagara Pran Talmala inspired me in my childhood,” he said.

MP Sanjay Raut said that the fight against slavery began in Bhagur village. The country achieved independence because people like Savarkar gave their lives.

“Society will always remain grateful to Savarkar for his work. Considering his patriotism, Savarkar’s name should be given to a warship,” he said.

MP Godse said that the state government had given Rs 63 lakh for renovating Savarkar’s house in Bhagur.

The defence minister also performed Bhoomipuja of the much-needed underground drainage scheme in Deolali Cantonment bordering Nashik city.

He directed the administration to start the project by the end of the monsoon.
