The composer duo has recorded a track with the British pop band and also made them sing in Hindi.

Composers Vishal and Shekhar are going international. After creating the blockbuster soundtrack for Sultan, the duo has collaborated with British pop-rock band, The Vamps. The gang was brought together by Bottomline Media and Virgin EMI records to make music together, and the news remained under wraps for the longest time.

The discussions to get the two musical powerhouses together had been on for a while, but once everyone was on board and were ready to record the song, it was executed earlier this month. Vishal and Shekhar were in London for a while and spent time with The Vamps, bonding over multiple music sittings.

Talking about the experience of recording with the band, Shekhar Ravjiani of the Vishal-Shekhar duo, said, “It was superb to work with The Vamps, they are good guys and extremely talented. We went in not really knowing each other, but in a few minutes of being there, they had taken the song that we had created for them and added their own vibe to it. There was a comfort and joy to the sessions we did and that is something I think you can hear in the track.”

The song that was recorded in London will have an Indian essence to it, and Vishal-Shekhar are said to have crooned in bits too. The whole process took about two days to finish. Shekhar says that despite the brainstorming that went in before they hit the studio, the band and the directors started from scratch, “When we were told this idea, it sounded like a good one. We threw in some ideas and that continued for sometime before we all were on the same page. We composed a tune on our way to London but when we entered the studio, we had no song in our head. But we finished the song in two days. We kind of wrote the song that would be in their comfort zone, but we have also added more a Indian and organic flavour to it; it’s a great mix of Rock meets Indian music. ”

Quiz him on any surprise elements that could be expected of the track, and Shekhar hesitantly reveals, “Well, they’re singing a few lines in Hindi as well!” The duo is no stranger to making international artistes sing to their tune, having made Akon croon in Hindi for Ra.One, something that Shekhar says The Vamps already knew about.

“They are aware of Chamak Challo that became known globally. They knew our work and we knew what they were capable of. They also know how much love they can get from India.”

Shekhar is also all praises for the band and their humility. “These boys are young and everybody has a unique talent. They have a huge fan following but are so humble. Those boys are very focussed and disciplined and very cool kids.”

The Vamps too returned the compliment to the duo and said they enjoyed collaborating with Vishal-Shekhar. “We had a great time recording with Vishal and Shekhar and it was fun to try something different from what we are used to. We are really excited for everyone to hear the single. It was fun showing them around London and we hope they will return the favour next month when we visit Mumbai. India is a country we have wanted to visit since we started as a band especially as we have such an incredible, loyal fan base there, so we can’t wait to come over.”

The Vamps has been a pretty popular band, since it was formed in 2012 and are best known for their debut single Can We Dance and Last Night. The band’s track Wake Up also became the acting debut vehicle of Brooklyn Beckham, football legend David Beckham’s son.

Both The Vamps and Vishal-Shekhar are know for their fun live shows and one would expect a combined concert to be off the charts when it comes to fun.

Can fans expect both worlds to come together for a gig Says Shekhar, “We have spoken about it and that’s going to happen very soon. Either they will come on board with us, or we will be on board with them, but it will happen.”
