Varsity recommends D Litt on Amitabh Bachchan, government nod awaited

The megastar has been recommended for the honour for his lifelong contribution to Indian Cinema.

Mumbai: The Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) here has recommended conferring of honorary D Litt on Amitabh Bachchan during its convocation this year, its vice-chancellor said today.

The Executive Council of the university has recommended conferring the degree on the legend on the 43rd annual convocation of the RBU, Vice-Chancellor Sabyasachi Basu

Ray Chaudhury told PTI here today. He said the EC's recommendation has been sent to Raj Bhavan 10 days ago for getting the nod of Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who is also the Chancellor of the university.

"We are awaiting the nod from Raj Bhavan," the VC said.

The megastar has been recommended for the honour for his lifelong contribution in the field of acting in a career spanning over four decades, the VC said.

Besides, names of three other eminent personalities in the fields of literature and arts have been recommended for D Litt.

Actor-director Amal Palekar was conferred D Litt by the university last year.

The convocation is slated to be held on May 8.
