Lyn Slater who goes by Accidental Icon on Instagram is a 64-year-old professor at Fordham University, has over 300,000 followers on the platform.

Much like her Instagram handle suggests, Slater did truly become an icon on accident.

According to a report in the Metro Slater was attending New York Fashion Week dressed in a Yohji Yamamoto suit and carrying a Chanel bag, when photographers began to take photos of her assuming she was someone important.

Soon others started to take pictures of her as well and Slater had fashion greatness thrust upon her.

The professor decided to put her newfound fame to good use and started a blog that catered to women in her age group.

Her blog states that the 64-year-old created the blog as she “was having trouble finding a fashion blog or magazine that offered an urban, modern, intellectual aesthetic but also spoke to women who live what I call ‘interesting but ordinary lives in cities’. Women (like me) who are not famous or celebrities but are smart, creative, fashion forward, fit, thoughtful, engaged, related, and most importantly clear and comfortable with who they are... ”

Slater was also signed by ELITE London’s Special Bookings division and recently featured in a campaign for Mango.

Slater’s told Cosmopolitan she goes by 'Coco' for Coco Chanel rather than grandma for her grandchildren.

The professor tags all her photos #AgeIsNotAVariable, and is certainly proving that age truly doesn't matter.
