Nitish expresses will for eye donation on Int'l Organ Donation Day

He added that by December 2017, all the medical college hospitals in the state along with the eye hospitals will have an eye bank.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced his will to donate his eyes, saying a proactive campaign should be launched for organ donation across nation.

"The way in which the campaign was carried out for the prohibition of liquor, there is a need to run a similar vibrancy for the donation of eyes and other organs," Kumar said here on the occasion of International Organ Donation Day.

He added that by December 2017, all the medical college hospitals in the state along with the eye hospitals will have an eye bank for donation.

"A lot has been achieved in the health sector. Today, around 11 thousand people come to government hospitals for treatment every month," he asserted.

Speaking on the flood issue, the Chief Minister said that due to heavy rain in Nepal and rise in water level in Tapti and Mahananda rivers, Northeastern Bihar is flooded.

"I have been taking stock of the ongoing situation and have requested for the deployment of Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) teams at work. I have also spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley," Kumar added.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister tweeted, "Spoke to Bihar CM @NitishKumar and discussed the flood situation in the state. The NDRF teams have already reached the affected areas. The Centre is rushing additional NDRF teams to Bihar to help the ongoing rescue &relief operations in the flood affected region of the state."

Following the relentless rain in Nepal, now Bihar is under a threat of facing the danger of flood.

An alert has been sounded by the state administration as the river was flowing above the danger mark of Kosi belt.

Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar are facing major flood problems caused by the rivers flowing from Nepal to India.
