Having a birthmark in some part of the body may not be a big deal for a lot of people but for some it can be something that can cast a shadow over their lives. While such skin conditions may be harmless, it’s the insensitivity and discrimination of society towards people that makes living with such conditions a harrowing experience.

For 22-year-old Beatriz Pugliese from Brazil, life has been a daily ordeal with cruel taunts from people around here and constant bullying for a birthmark that covers 80 percent of her body. The skin condition that affects only one in half a million people also led to Beatriz being nicknamed ‘monkey’.

But despite facing such an insensitive attitude for her condition, Beatriz has decided to stand strong and embrace her body as she doesn’t want any further surgery to remove the birthmark. She has also found love with her boyfriend of three years and is unfazed by what everyone has to say.

Beatriz hopes to inspire people as she tells everyone to be happy with what they have and be confident in their own skin. She says it’s what we are inside that matters and even wishes to work with monkeys out of her love for nature.

The birthmark was never a problem for her boyfriend Fellipe who actually loves them and has helped her feel comfortable. Beatriz has undergone 30 surgeries since she was born to remove parts of the mark, but now she has refused to hide.
