Rohit Bal celebrates Mughal style at fashion show

New Delhi: Rohit Bal and opulence go hand-in-hand and the designer's latest Mughal era-themed collection at the FDCI India Couture Week 2017, was a testament to it.

Titled "Shahaan-e-Khaas", the clothing line was Bal's effort to display heritage garments, inspired by the regal Mughal costumes.

And this time to showcase his collection, Bal took a little help from his friends led by his muse, Bollywood star Arjun Rampal , who walked the ramp in an all black bandhgala- pants ensemble, much to the delight of the crowd at the Bikaner House.

Also in tow on the ramp were designer Raghavendra Rathore, "Zubaan" director Mozez Singh, former vice- president (marketing and communication) Christian Dior, Kalyani Saha with her daughter, and FDCI president Sunil Sethi among others.

Bal had ample support off the ramp as well with fellow designers Anju Modi, JJ Vallaya and Leena Singh in attendance.

Despite the starry affair, the attention never strayed from Bal's clothes, which were his interpretation of royal costumes with the introduction of new elements to suit the modern sensibilities. In the the retelling of the Mughal era clothes, the designer not once lost the beauty of the original and kept alive the rich traditional embroidery, while paying an ode to the lost craft and tradition.

The show, featuring both women and menswear, began with the elegant white which were succeeded by a dash of colours in the form of rust brown, forest green, midnight blue and luxurious maroon.

Floor length sleeves of jackets, shoulder pads, rich velvet capes, embroidered crop jackets, intricate embroidery on the sleeves of the garments and Swarovski crystals on the pieces were the highlights of the line.

To maintain the focus on the clothes, the make-up was kept minimal by sticking to nude eyes and dark lips, while the standout accessory was the big, floral hair bun tie, which each female model sported.
