Mucha plays inspiration to Varun Bahl at ICW 2017
New Delhi: Couturier Varun Bahl who is known for his global and discerning approach towards traditional Indian-wear took inspiration from the Art Nouveau period to create a series of vintage floral stories for his India Couture Week 2017 collection titled 'Dream Nouveau' at the Taj Palace Hotel.
In attendance at the event were Rohit Bal, JJ Valaya, Manish Malhotra, Pernia Qureshi and Kalyani Chawla along with industry giants such as Ajay Bijli of PVR Cinemas.
Inspired by Czech Art Nouveau painter and artist Alphonse Mucha’s masterpieces—like the Le Pater (1889), The Seasons (1896), and The Flowers (1898)—the collection showcased traits of the artists’ traditional bohemian influence and neo classical motifs. The range plays with curvi linear patterns, asymmetrical lines, and floral and plant motifs.
Sepaking about his collection, he said, “Through this collection we, have tried to recreate a magical sequence of designs. With Art Nouveau being the inspiration, we have tried to enhance the artistic elements with ornamentation and silhouettes with classic cuts. Each and every design was catered to carefully and was created by blending poetry and fantasy to transport the audience to a dreamy atmosphere.”
The color palette saw an eclectic mix of ivory, pale pink, peach, burnt orange, pistachio, red, and old rose.
