Miss World — that is what she wanted to be since she was a child. Today, Navneet Kaur Dhillon is one step closer to living that dream. “I was a child when Aishwarya Rai won the Miss World title. My father was watching the show on TV and said to me that one day his daughter will be there too. After that whenever someone asked me what I wanted to become when I grew older, I always said ‘Miss World!’,” says Navneet, who will be vying for the title in Bali this week. Navneet believes she has an edge over the other contestants thanks to her upbringing. “I come from an army background. Every two years, my father would be posted in a different place. So I have lived in various villages, towns and metros across the country. Knowing different mindsets, growing up amongst different cultures and having exposure to different things has shaped me into who I am today,” she adds. Navneet tells us that apart from prepping for the big contest, she has been doing her bit of social work as part of her Miss India commitment. “I spent a couple of days in a village near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu to understand the lives of the locals there and educate them about the harmful effects of consuming contaminated water. It was an interesting experience and I’d love to do something more about it,” she says. Would she want to join Bollywood like so many of her predecessors “Yes! Why not If I get a good director, a nice script and a nice co-star to work with, I would,” she signs off.
