A 32-year-old inter-state gangster and his two associates were arrested for their alleged involvement in several cases of murder, robbery and snatching in Delhi and NCR, the police said on Thursday. Mohammad Fahim, alias Pona, was held by the special cell on Wednesday night from Laxmi Nagar after a brief gun battle. Sub-inspector Azad Bhushan and head constable Yashpal Bhati, were hit by a bullet each on their bullet-proof jackets. Fahim’s two accomplices Kadir Ali, 19, and Akshay Sareen, 21, were arrested on Monday from near Guru Nanak Eye Centre in central Delhi with two pistols and seven live cartridges, the police said. “The arrest of Fahim came following interrogation of these two members of his gang. As per the inputs provided by the duo, sources were deployed to trace Fahim,” said DCP (special cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, “On Wednesday night, a tip off was received that Fahim would be coming to Ramesh Park in Laxmi Nagar and a trap was laid to nab him subsequently,” said DCP Yadav. At about 8.30 pm, Fahim was spotted, when the police team asked him to surrender he started running and opened fire. Our team also fired in self-defence and Fahim was apprehended after a brief chase and scuffle, the DCP said.
*** Cops rescue boy,arrest kidnapper Ghaziabad: A day after a three-year-old boy was kidnapped, the police on Thursday rescued him from Sahibabad area of the district and arrested the kidnapper. Ishant was kidnapped by a neighbour Shamshad while he was playing near his Vijay Nagar residence. According to the police, Shamshad had demanded a ransom of '50,000 from the boy’s mother Sano. “Shamshad took Ishant to a vacant factory in Sahibabad area and made a call to his mother demanding ransom. Following complaint, we traced the phone and rescued the boy from his custody,” said a senior police officer. The police arrested Shamshad and seized a countrymade pistol from him. — PTI
