Slain CPI-ML leader’s kin file FIR against Cong MLA

The family members of veteran CPI-ML leader Gangarm Kaul who was killed on March 25 in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district has filed an FIR against Congress MLA and parliamentary secretary Raju Sahu and five others accusing him of involved in the murder.

In the FIR filed at Panitola police station of Tinsukia district, the wife of veteran CPI-ML leader has named five panchayat leaders of the Congress party, which included Mridul Neog, Vijay Gohain, Mahesh Goala, Deepak Thakuria and Pursottam Singh. The CPI-ML, which has demanded CBI probe into the murder of veteran leader, accused the involvement of Congress leaders in to murder of Mr Gangaram Kaul who was raising voices against corruption and malpractices of the ruling party leaders in the tea garden areas of the district. The CPI-ML, which took out a protest march to Raj Bhawan on Thursday, also submitted a memorandum to the Assam governor J.B. Patnaik seeking his intervention for a CBI probe. Earlier, Assam government decided to go for a CID probe into the killing of CPI-ML Liberation leader Gangaram Kaul. In a statement Assam chief minister’s office on Thursday said, “The government has decided to hand over investigation in to murder of Gangaram Kaul to CID and perpetrators of the heinous crime will be punished accordingly.” The 44-year-old labour leader was found dead on a roadside at Gutibari village in Tinsukia district on March 25. He was attacked with sharp weapons, police said. The slain CPI-ML leader Mr Kaul had contested the Lok Sabha election from Dibrugarh constituency in 2009. He had also contested the state assembly polls twice as CPI-ML Liberation candidate from Chabua constituency in 2006 and 2011. The Congress MLA and parliamentary secretary Mr Sahu, however, denied his involvement into the murder of veteran CPI-ML leader. He told reporters, “I will also advocate for CBI probe into the killing of Mr Kaul.”
