Supplementary charges by Oct. 15

The CBI is all set to file its first supplementary chargesheet in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case by October 15.

The CBI is all set to file its first supplementary chargesheet in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case by October 15. According to sources the supplementary chargesheet will be based on the agency’s investigations into the conspiracy which led to the encounter of Mumbai-based teenager. “Agency’s probe into the conspiracy which led to the fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan and three others on June 15, 2004, is almost complete. Agency has sufficient evidence which prove that Ishrat and three others were abducted by the Gujarat police from Vasad toll booth a few days before the encounter. They were killed in custody by the accused Gujarat cops”, sources said. The CBI is also planning to file a second supplementary chargesheet giving details of the agency’s probe into the tapes carrying the purported conversations of the Gujarat government officials discussing ways and means to save the accused cops. The CBI also recorded the statements of three Gujarat ministers about an alleged meeting held in November 2011 to decide the strategy to obstruct the investigation of the fake encounters of Ishrat and three others. Suspended IPS officer G.L. Singhal, who was among the nine persons who allegedly attended the meeting, had submitted two pen drives to the CBI containing the recorded conversation of the meeting. Singhal is now out on bail. Sources said although the three Gujarat ministers have admitted taking part in a meeting, the agency cannot take their statements on face value. The agency is seeking legal opinion in this regard. Sources said the agency is also probing whether the ministers took steps to shield the police officials or discussions recorded by one of the accused was just off-the table conversations. CBI recently questioned the three suspended ministers who had allegedly attended the purported meeting. Meanwhile, the CBI, which is also probing Tulsi Prajapati encounter case, on Thursday examined the brother of Gujarat fake encounter victim Soharbuddin Sheikh. He was examined as witness in the case, sources added.
