Bengal tribal gangraped by 3, critical
A young tribal woman was allegedly kidnapped and gangraped by three youths in Jalpaiguri. The incident took place at Moraghat area under Banarhat police station late on Tuesday evening. The victim was coming from Binaguri where she had gone for shopping. Sources said three youths who were on a bike accosted her. The trio forcefully kidnapped the woman and took her to a nearby Moraghat forest, where they severely beat her up and took turns to rape her. The trio reportedly abandoned the woman in the forests. According to sources, the woman was found lying unconscious and injured by locals. She was initially taken to Banarhat primary health centre and later to Birpara hospital. Her condition reportedly deteriorated and she was referred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital where her condition was critical. Meanwhile, rape charges have been slapped on the perpetrators of the crime and police have detained a person in connection with the rape. They have started an investigation into the matter. However, police sources said that the officers were waiting for the victim to recover so they can record her statement. After the horrific gangrape of a photojournalist at the heart of Mumbai, the crimes against women continue to rise at an alarming rate with reports of rape and molestation from all corners of the country.
