Akin to the Shiv Sena, the Congress also wants to hold a rally on December 28 at Shivaji Park Maidan on the occasion of its Foundation Day. The party has filed a notice of motion before the Bombay high court seeking permission for the rally slated on Friday. The notice of motion was filed by Dharmesh Vyas, secretary of the Mumbai Congress, along with an affidavit saying that on the occasion of the party’s Foundation Day, the court should allow it to hold a rally at Shivaji Park ground. Party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are also expected to attend the rally. “We have filed a notice of motion in the HC seeking permission to hold a rally that might come up for hearing next week,” said Mr Vyas. He said that the decision of filing an appeal was taken after the BMC rejected the party’s application seeking permission to hold a rally. “Soon after his appointment as the chief of Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) Janardan Chandurkar has announced that to celebrate the foundation day of the party, a rally would be organised at Shivaji Park Maidan like before. As part of his announcement, an application was made to the BMC, but was rejected based on the restrictions imposed by the high court,” said Mr Vyas. The Bombay high court has banned political rallies at Shivaji Park declaring it as a silence zone. Loading...
