Man abducted for '1cr ransom returns home
A 23-year-old student of architecture, who was kidnapped by unidentified persons on Monday, returned home on Thursday under suspicious conditions. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of '1 crore for his safe release and the amount was negotiated to '39 lakhs. The police officials did not confirm whether the ransom amount was paid to the kidnappers by the victim’s family or not. The incident has been reported from Jamia Nagar area of southeast Delhi, the police said. A senior police official said that the victim was identified as Mohammed Rehan. On Monday, he was on his way to his institute in his car when unidentified men kidnapped him. The family members of the victim received a ransom call soon after his kidnapping after which the police were approached. “The kidnappers demanded '1 crore in ransom and the amount was negotiated two times. Finally, they agreed to free him for '39 lakhs. We formed 30 police teams to look into the case and trace the victim and the accused. The kidnappers were making calls from Faridabad, Dadri Station, Modi Nagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Badarpur and Greater Noida. Raids were conducted but they managed to give a slip every time,” said the police official. On Friday morning at around 6.30 am, the kidnappers dumped the victim near ISBT Sarai Kale Khan. The victim then hired an autorickshaw and returned home. His car was found abandoned at Ashram Chowk. Rehan told the police that his hand and legs were tied with a rope and he was blindfolded by the kidnappers. The police said that Rehan is also under scanner as he has given some contradictory statements. “We are looking into the matter,” said the police official.
