The Food Security Bill may have been passed in the Lok Sabha, but this hasn’t put an end to political squabbles and criticism. The main Opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party, has described it as a “vote security bill” and a political gimmick. I agree that the ruling UPA-2 government has presented the bill keeping in mind the 2014 general election, but one cannot ignore the fact that the bill promises cheap food to about 70 per cent of the country’s population.
