Gun, laptop, '1.37 lakh stolen from parked car
Thieves managed to steal a licensed revolver from a vehicle, while the owner was away and also made away with a laptop and '1.37 lakh in cash. The incident took place on Wednesday morning on the Sion-Trombay Road at Chembur, when the accused broke the window and stole the valuables. The Govandi police has registered a case against unknown persons. Ashok Shivaji Waydande (41) had parked his car (MH-43-N-6624) near the Powerhouse Gym near Maitri Park on the Sion-Trombay Road and was at a nearby restaurant having lunch with his friends. Around 11.30 am, an unknown person broke the left rear window and made away with a bag containing '10,000 in cash, laptop worth '40,000, and a licensed revolver worth '87,000. The .32 Bore firearm, bearing serial number 4771, was manufactured at the Ambarnath Ordnance Factory. Mr Waydande returned to find the window broken and the valuables missing. The matter was reported to the Govandi police, which has registered a theft case against unknown persons. Waydande is a resident of Hilain Heights in Kalamboli at Navi Mumbai. “This is a serious incident since a firearm has been stolen and can be used for any criminal activity later. We are trying to trace the accused and questioning nearby shop owners and eyewitnesses,” said a police official.
