Man jailed for 8 yrs for raping daughter
A 70-year-old man, who had claimed that he could not have committed the offence as he has turned impotent due to his age, has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment by a city court for repeatedly raping his minor daughter. Dismissing his claim, additional sessions judge Sanjay Garg held Delhi resident Man Singh Thapa guilty of raping his daughter. The court noted, “It is very difficult to visualise that the girl and her sister, who are just 12 and 10 years old, could make such allegation against their biological father who was maintaining and taking care of them and was the only person on which they were dependent for their day to day care especially when their mother is no more.” Further, it said “the convict, who is the father and custodian of the girl, kept on raping her at his pleasure. It is not a case of isolated incident rather the convict sexually abused his daughter as and when he got opportunity.” According to the police, the girl, with the help of her sister, had approached the police in 2011 alleging that her father used to rape her and on resisting, he would beat her. The girl had told the court that Thapa was in a habit of consuming alcohol daily and thereafter he would rape her whenever he desired. After being raped repeatedly, she had disclosed about the incident to her neighbour, who instead suggested her to approach the police.
