A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing '4.7 lakhs from a passenger’s bag in a Metro train here, the police said on Saturday.

A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing '4.7 lakhs from a passenger’s bag in a Metro train here, the police said on Saturday. According to the police, Gajaba, 30, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested at the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station on Saturday morning. The metro security staff also recovered '4.7 lakhs cash from his bag which he had allegedly stolen from a passenger. “The victim, who was in his late 50s and was going towards Uttam Nagar from Seelampur, had boarded the Metro from Kashmiri Gate station. When he reached Rajiv Chowk, he found the cash missing from his bag following which he raised an alarm,” said a police official. When Gajaba tried to flee from the spot, the security staff deployed at the metro station arrested him, he said. During interrogation, Gajaba allegedly told the police that he was part of a gang. He revealed that three or more gang members surround a target and then one of them cuts open the victim’s bag and they take away the cash or valuables in it, the police said. A manhunt has been launched to nab his other accomplices, the police said.

A 15-year-old girl and a 23-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in two separate incidents in the city, the police said on Saturday. According to the police, no suicide note was found in either incident. In the first incident, a 15-year-old girl Laxmi, a Class 7 student, committed suicide in New Seemapuri area by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on Friday evening, the police said. “No suicide note was recovered and the girl’s body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination,” said a police official. In the second incident, a 23-year-old woman hanged herself from the ceiling fan of her room late on Friday night, the police official said. The girl lived with her mother, father and two brothers in Karawal Nagar. “The reason for the extreme step is not known as no suicide note was found from the spot. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination and further investigation in the case is on,” said a police official.
