Mumbai Indians to start training at Wankhede

Foreign players to join the training camp of the defending champions today

They have lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy thrice in five years but they have never been fortunate enough to do that on their home pitch at the decorated Wankhede stadium. With a week to go for the all-glamour league to begin, Mumbai Indians will start training at the good old Wankhede from today.

Mumbai domestic team skipper Aditya Tare along with other non-Indian players have been training at Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai. The rest of the squad will join them from Sunday prior to the season opener at home against old rivals Chennai Super Kings.

Returning to the MI squad again after departing in 2015, Tare is excited to reunite with his old mate Kieron Pollard. The pair joined MI together in 2010, where Tare built a bond with the jolly West Indian. “Pollard is one of my good friends and I am glad to play with him again. We started playing for MI together and now we will have that chance again,” says Tare.

“We finished a small camp in Ghansoli and it was good to be back with the franchise,” he adds after returning from a finger injury that forced him out of the Mumbai T20 League.

Nevertheless, the Mumbai skipper viewed the tournament from another perspective as a commentator. The injury kept him out of the tournament but he had his share of entertainment. “I was close to the game even without being a part of it.”

Mumbai Indians will play their first match on April 7 at home followed by an away game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 12.
