India aims to script history if it manages to win Test series versus South Africa

This is India's first Test series at home after defeating West Indies 2-0 in October, 2018.

Mumbai: After defeating West Indies 2-0 on their home turf, India will be looking to repeat its performances once again in its home den against the South Africa, when it begins the World Test Championship defence during its first home Test campaign.

India will lock horns with South Africa on Wednesday for the first of the three-match Test series in Vishakhapatnam. However, this is India’s first Test series at home after defeating West Indies 2-0 in October, 2018.

Virat Kohli and his team will be looking to maintain the winning record at home too. However, if the team manages to win the series, the unit will register a historic feat in the longest format.

Firm favourites India will test the relatively young Proteas side, which is going through a transition period after the retirement of Dale Steyn, Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers. If India wins the series, this will be India’s 11th straight Test series win at home, and this will be the most by any team at home.

Currently, India is tied at 10th for registering most home series win along with the Australian teams led by Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor between November 1994 and November 2000 and the team led by Ricky Ponting between July 2004 and November 2008, respectively.

Since 2013, India hasn’t lost a Test series, especially, after the home Test series defeat against England in 2012-13. India’s winning streak started with the Test series win versus West Indies, which was also Sachin Tendulkar’s last Test series of his career.
