Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar monitored day one of the coaching camp conducted by Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy (TMGA) at DY Patil Stadium on Thursday. TMGA is a joint venture between SRT Sports Management Ltd and Middlesex Country Cricket Club (MCCC) and it launched its first cricket camp in London from August 6-8.

Now the TMGA coaching and talent spotting camp is being held at DY Patil from November 1 to 4. The camp will be hosted at MIG club, Bandra from November 6 to 9. After Mumbai, the camp will be set up in Pune from November 12 to 15 and November 17 to 20.

“The idea is to make them better cricketers and global citizens. Teach them how to take responsibility on the field and generally in life and distinguish between right and wrong. The basics have never changed; methods have changed as far as approach is concerned as different formats are introduced. Team work, celebrate team-mate’s success, how to talk to players going through lean patch etc, we want to make them feel this game that teaches a lot,” said the cricketer on Thursday.

Middlesex team led by skipper Dawid Malan has also traveled here. Local coaches like Vinod Kambli, Pradeep Sundaram are mentoring kids along with coaches from MCCC. The Master Blaster and Kambli also went to meet their coach Ramakant Achrekar ahead of his new cricketing venture.

“We have got experienced coaches around some one with whom I have played cricket with and they done magnificent job in their careers. So, their experience is going to matter. Coaching methods are going to be at highest level. Level 4 coaches have also flown and to understand their methodology is critical. The four-day camp will give them exposure and make them understand more about the game,” Sachin said.

Sachin revealed the professional coaches at MCCC and the Master himself has developed the comprehensive training curriculum which will be free for underprivileged children.

“We used the experience of Middlesex management with history of 154 years and my cricket career of 24 years in getting together many things and introduce them for both boys and girls. It is important to encourage girls and I have seen already couple of talented girls today, they are really good,” he said.

“We are also taking care of the under privileged children or some one who is talented but can’t afford (to pay). Free of cost coaching never will be deprived for them,” he said.

The 45-year-old informed this program will not be limited to cricket and will spread across the globe.

“It is just an introductory camp. In long term we want to associate with school and colleges, build clubs for all sports. Club culture brings people closer. I have already said I want to promote all sports not just cricket. This academy is global where children will not have boundaries and will get strong foundation to construct something what they want,” he added.
