Ind vs Eng: Manish Pandey replaces injured Rahane
Mumbai: Just a day before Mumbai Test, Ajinkya Rahane was ruled out of the fourth India versus England Test at the Wankhede Stadium. Mohammed Shami’s fitness also remains a concern for the Indian side.
Manish Pandey was called in to replace local boy Rahane while the Mumbai speedster Shardul Thakur was included in the squad as Shami’s backup.
“The BCCI medical team confirms that India batsman Ajinkya Rahane sustained an avulsion fracture on his right index finger and has been ruled out for the remaining two Test matches of the Paytm series – 2016 against England. A ball stuck Rahane during the practice session today (on Wednesday),” said BCCI in a media release.
“Manish Pandey has been included in the team as a replacement for Rahane. Mumbai medium pacer Shardul Thakur has been called as back up for India pacer Mohammed Shami, who is nursing a sore knee,” added the Indian cricket board.
“The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring his progress and a decision on his participation will be taken before the start of the fourth Test match,” concluded BCCI.
