Why Moeen Ali was absent from England's squad against Bangladesh

While he did take three wickets in the match against Pakistan, Ali failed to impress with the bat.

Mumbai: England all-rounder Moeen Ali was a part of the playing eleven in England’s first two matches against South Africa and Pakistan. However, after a shocking loss to Pakistan, the player was missing from the squad for the Bangladesh game.

Ali gave away 63 runs against South Africa, picking up just one wicket, and scoring just 3 runs. While he did take three wickets in the match against Pakistan, Ali failed to impress with the bat.

Though Moeen Ali’s performance wasn’t the best in the first two matches, the reason for him not being in the squad isn’t his performance.

According to live commentary, the player had reportedly asked for paternity leave so he could be with his wife who is close to giving birth to their second child.

England has meanwhile scored well and left a 387-run target for Bangladesh to chase.
