Chris Gayle on the brink of breaking two massive records

Mumbai: As West Indies face India in the first ODI out of a three-match ODI series, West Indies Opener Chris Gayle will be looking to break former West Indies legend Brian Lara’s two historic records. During the T20I series, India totally outplayed the Caribbeans in every department to clinch the series 3-0.

However, the two-time World Cup Champions will be looking to avenge the T20I loss by winning the three-match ODI series. And, for that to happen, Chris Gayle has to start firing from the start. Chris Gayle, who will be retiring after the home series against India, will be hoping provide flying start to West Indies.   

As India lock horns with West Indies today, the left-handed batsman will become surpass Brian Lara (295) to become the most capped ODI player in the history of West Indies cricket. Currently, the ‘Universe Boss’ is tied with Brian Lara who has played 295 ODI games.

If Chris Gayle score 11 or above then he will be the top run-scorer for West Indies in the 50-overs format. Gayle, who has amassed 10,337 ODI runs, is just 11 runs short of Lara’s record of 10,348 ODI runs.  

If Gayle scores 111 or above in the first ODI match versus India then he will be the leading ODI run-scorer for West Indies versus India. Currently, Desmond Haynes tops the list with 1357 ODI runs, while Gayle is at fifth spot with 1246 ODI runs.

Moreover, if the opening batsman scores 67 or above then the 39-year-old will be the top scorer at the Guyana based stadium. Currently, Gayle is at third with 248 runs, and is just behind Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Mohammad Hafeez.

Coming back to the match, ahead of the first ODI match between India and West Indies, the West Indies ODI captain Jason Holder in a press conference had stated, “Chris Gayle has always done well over the years. It is great to have him in the squad. He always brings a lot to the team. His presence is always felt when he steps in any cricket field. We are happy to have him in the dressing room.”
